一、文本分析
Tom’s Special Day来自《丽声北极星分级绘本五年级下》(江苏版),介绍了Tom的朋友们为Tom准备生日惊喜的故事。本文为记叙文,通过讲述Tom的生日即将到来,但是他并没有任何计划,因此他的朋友们想给他一个惊喜。生日当天,Tom通过一系列的线索找到了大家送给他的生日礼物这一故事,突出“生日Birthday”的主题。
(1)[What] 主题意义和主要内容
本文通过讲述Tom的朋友们为他准备生日惊喜的故事,引出了“生日和友谊”的话题。Tom的生日即将到来,但是他并没有任何计划,因此他的朋友们想给他一个惊喜。生日当天,朋友们给Tom一张卡片,Tom根据卡片上的线索一,找到了稻草人,根据稻草人的鞋子里的线索二,找到了一颗苹果树,接着根据苹果树上的线索三,来到了一个有红色大门的谷仓,根据门后的线索四,发现一个鸟屋,在鸟屋里发现的线索五,帮助他找到了朋友们送他的生日礼物。多么特别的一份生日惊喜呀!

作者通过介绍Tom的朋友们为他准备生日惊喜的故事,引出了“Birthday”的话题。故事中的Tom通过朋友们一系列的线索找到了这份特别的生日惊喜,在分享故事的同时,也启发读者思考:在朋友过生日时,我们该如何为他留下美好的回忆,激发读者对友谊的珍惜。
(3)[How] 文体结构和语言修辞
全文共分为三个部分,第一部分是Tom的生日即将到来,但是他没有任何计划,因此他的朋友们准备给他一个惊喜;第二部分呈现了Tom寻找线索的全过程;第三部分是Tom根据线索找到了朋友们为他准备的生日惊喜。本文主要使用一般现在时,还出现了一般将来时(We are going to play a game./ Where are we going?/It will be at the farm.)。通过Tom的生日即将到来,朋友们和Tom展开对话交流的情节,呈现主要句型“When is your birthday?/It’s on .../What do you do on your birthday?”,在句型的基础上,学习核心词汇“birthday, eleventh, April, together, number, eighth, play, game, answer”。 全文配以鲜艳的手绘图片完整呈现了Tom根据线索寻找生日惊喜的过程。绘本最后的story map以图片的形式梳理了Tom生日惊喜的故事。
二、学情分析
本故事与江苏译林版英语五年级下册第八单元内容契合度高,适合作为拓展阅读的素材。本节课的授课对象是五年级学生,经过教材内容设计苏海、迈克两人的生日活动内容的学习,学生对生日话题已经不陌生,并且已经掌握了与该话题相关的一定量的词汇和句型。重点句型为“When’s your birthday?/ It’s on.../What do you do on your birthday?”但是,对于在生日前如何为朋友准备惊喜的英语表达,学生还需要更好的引导和学习。对于文中出现的together, number, answer等词汇需要在阅读过程中进一步感知词汇发音,理解具体含义。五年级学生对英语有了一定的学习基础和兴趣,在课堂上能积极参与各项活动,乐于用英语表达,这为课堂教学的成功创造了良好条件。
三、教学目标
在本节课学习结束时,学生能够:
(1)学会使用句型 “When’s your birthday?/ It’s on.../What do you do on your birthday?”进行简单的对话。
(2)提取Tom的朋友们提供给他的生日惊喜线索信息,以小语篇的形式进行梳理、复述;
(3)选取其中线索的相关情节,小组合作表演朋友帮助Tom拿到线索的过程;
(4)通过阅读,能体会主人公积极探索的精神和朋友、家人给予他的关爱之情,并从中学会感恩、关爱他人。
